Outline

Five years ago, AnimalhealthEurope’s conference discussed the One Health concept, what it means, why it’s important, and the contributing role of the animal health industry.
Two years ago, the world at large was hit with the realities of how crucial taking a One Health approach is, both to address and hopefully prevent future threats to our collective health.
Today, we know that when it comes to One Health, it is time to move from philosophy to action and from politics to policy.

Our annual event will look at what is happening in the global arena and actions taken at a European level. Speakers and participants will discuss developments since the first mention in the EU sphere with the launch of the EU One Health Action Plan on AMR in 2016, to the more recent mentions in the Farm to Fork and Biodivesity strategies.

Are Europe’s successes in the areas of animal health and welfare recognised for their positive impacts on One Health? How well has the environmental pillar of One Health been incorporated? And, does the public health and animal health link extend beyond AMR and zoonoses control?

Keynote speakers
  • Monique Eloit, Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH)
  • Claire Bury, Deputy Director General, DG SANTE, European Commission
Panel discussion

The balancing act of public, animal and environmental health
How to translate this to policy?

‘We are only strong as our weakest health system’ is a phrase that has resonated starkly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our panel will debate the paths to ensure balance in protecting public, animal and planetary health, discussing what more is needed from a policy or legislative perspective and how to bring One Health approaches into the mainstream.

Panelists:
  • Nino Berdzuli, WHO Europe
  • Aida Bakri, Environmental Adviser and Sustainability Leader, ADS Insight
  • Ludovico Sepe, One Health European Joint Programme
  • Steve Hallahan, EPRUMA
